SpeakoFlow transcribes and inserts your words into the active app.
Voice-activity detection filters non-speech audio out of the recording, so pausing to think does not leave gaps.
Most people speak around 150 words a minute and type around 45. Dictation is roughly three times faster.

Hold or Tap

Settings → General → Recording → Recording behavior.
  • Hold (default). Records while you hold the Dictate shortcut, and stops when you release.
  • Tap. One press starts recording, the next press stops it.
Tap is how you dictate with your hands off the keyboard. See Hands-free recording.

Good to know

The overlay shows Getting mic ready… until the microphone actually starts delivering audio, then switches to a live waveform.That cue is driven by real audio frames rather than a fixed delay. Once the wave moves, your words are being captured.
A single recording is capped at 30 minutes. At the cap SpeakoFlow finalizes it automatically: it stops, saves the audio, and transcribes.Audio is only written to disk after a recording stops, so the cap means a forgotten session still produces a transcript instead of losing everything.
Turn on Audio feedback in Settings → General → Sounds if you want cues, then pick a Feedback sound: Default, Marimba, Pop, or Click. A Custom option appears only if you have supplied your own sound files. See General settings.Mute while recording silences system audio for the length of a recording. It is also off by default.
Pick your input in Settings → General → Recording. Two related options live elsewhere.Always-on microphone (Settings → Dictation → Output options, off by default) keeps the mic warm so the first words are never clipped, at the cost of a little battery.Clamshell microphone (Settings → Debug) picks a different input for when a laptop lid is closed.
