# Undo

> Get a dictation back after you cancel it or it fails. The recording pill offers Undo or Try again for a few seconds, and History keeps every dismissed dictation.

Cancel a recording by accident and the pill does not just vanish. It turns into a quiet line that lets you take it back.

## What you see

* **Cancelled a recording:** the pill says "Dismissed" with an **Undo** button.
* **Transcription failed:** the pill says "Transcription failed" with a **Try again** button.

The pill stays for about 2.5 seconds. Hover over it and it stays open until you move away. Click the button and SpeakoFlow finishes the dictation from where it stopped: transcribing if needed, cleaning up if that shortcut was used, and pasting the result.

If the pill disappears before you act, the dictation is still in **History** (on the sidebar). Dismissed recordings are kept there with a **Recover** button. Recovering from History transcribes and saves the result, but does not paste it.

## What is not offered

A few situations do not show the Undo pill:

* **Very short recordings.** Less than half a second of voice is almost always a hotkey pressed by mistake and cancelled on purpose. No pill, no History row.
* **Assistant and in-app destinations.** Recovering pastes the text, which is the wrong destination for a question meant for the assistant or for a field inside SpeakoFlow itself.
* **X11 on Linux without layer shell.** A clickable overlay on plain X11 would take keyboard focus from the app being dictated into, so the pill stays non-interactive there. History still keeps the recording.
